Thoughts on my thesis being tweaked

I understand the political, social, time and money constraints of my original thesis, which is to redefining the urban planning of an entire city. I hoped to move people from their single family homes (which they rarely use during business hours) into the city, eradicate those low density areas and revert them back to farmlands, solar and wind harvesting and forests. Where the city core is once again densified, cars would be obsolete in that situation and people can interact with each other and their surroundings in a new way. Since it is such a concentrated area of people, and building structures sustainable concepts like recycling (of water (including gray water pipelines) and trash), smart grid can easily be applied to the area with much smaller footprint. Each area of concentrated of buildings within the city becomes a node, a single, fast and frequent transportation system can be incorporated to link the entire city together via networks.

Before such ideas are necessary (i think it is already too late to save the planet, too little too late is being done) to be implemented, there have been examples of entire cities being planned and built, and subsequently failed. Brazilia for an instance, the idea was very noble, walking radius of libraries close to homes of children, each child can access atleast 2 libraries just by walking. The idea was not to blame, but people is the key variable. Each person has a different personality, way of working and thinking as well as economic abilities. Society has lumped people together by income level, racial background, area they live in for statistics but people are not just statistics! We change, for the better or worse and is truly unpredictable, no matter what experts might say. So many ideas and cities have failed not because the idea was not great, or noble, there are just too many variables unaccounted for, years of studies need to be made, and once they're made they are already outdated.

With this project i hope to understand what and why i need to do in life, i really don't know how my project will turn out at all, but i can say that because it has been changed, i am less objective about the idea. It doesn't mean that i am not as excited as before, i am still passionate about the topic and ideas, and i think having the emotional factor taken out of it will make it a better project :)
